Jian Jia had been an overachiever all her life. She worked herself to exhaustion to save enough money to buy a house—and succeeded, only to wear herself out completely. When she opened her eyes after death, she unexpectedly found herself transported into an old melodramatic novel, Pastoral Pampered Love, taking on the role of a villainous supporting character who shared her name.
The original character was a sharp-tongued, arrogant, and married farm girl with a hopeless crush. She despised the hunter who had saved her from hardship and pined obsessively after Xu Lingsheng, a renowned scholar in the surrounding villages, pursuing him relentlessly. She even contemplated killing her husband to marry a tertiary male lead.
However, Xu Lingsheng was the male third lead loyal to the female protagonist, completely devoted to her, and utterly irritated by the original character’s advances. When he discovered that she had tried to harm the heroine out of jealousy, he joined forces with the powerful male lead to execute her.
In the end, it was still the original character’s hunter husband who, despite her constant disdain and verbal abuse, went to great lengths, spending all his wealth to retrieve her broken body. He carefully carried her back to their village and gave her a proper burial.
Jian Jia arrived at this world just as the original character was sinking into hardship and marrying the hunter husband.
Qin Yi had once been helped by Jian Jia’s father. When he learned that the daughter of his benefactor was now in a difficult situation, he sold his property to gather fifteen taels of silver to redeem Jian Jia, who had nearly been sold by her stepbrother.
For this, he was mocked by villagers: the Jian family girl was pampered and clearly unsuited to a simple life, and marrying her was considered a huge loss for Qin Yi.
